All the skills you need to look ahead, plan ahead and get ahead

“It is not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent; it is the one most adaptable to change.” – Darwin

Futures Foundations Series

We live in times of massive change. From artificial intelligence to climate change, our world is changing faster than ever before. It is no longer enough to simply act for today. For our organisations to both survive and thrive, we have to plan ahead and constantly adapt to change. Through these courses, we will teach you how to help your organisation to look ahead, plan ahead and get ahead. The Futures Foundation Series is a set of 3 courses designed to transform your mindset and give you the essential tools you’ll need to create a purposeful and adaptive organisation.

To help you look ahead and adapt to a rapidly-changing world, we train your whole brain to think like a real strategist.

Course 1: Foresight foundations

Kodac, Blockbuster and Walmart all have one thing in common – they failed to look ahead, see the changes coming, and adapt.  But this failure is not limited to the private sector .

We see regular examples of the same failure to look ahead and adapt in the public sector too.  Whether it’s failing to see and prevent plastics from spoiling our environment or regulating to ensure buildings are safe in earthquakes, the consequences are all too real.

In this course you’ll learn the fundamental concepts and skills for helping your organisation to look ahead and effectively assess the opportunities and risks of different possible futures.

Course 2: Strategy skills

Strategy is one of the most over-used and least understood terms around.  At its heart, strategy is about acting purposefully to achieve clearly-defined goals or outcomes.  In this course, you’ll learn that the best way to predict the future is to create it, and we’ll show you how to help your organisation do exactly that.

We’ll walk you through the origins of strategy and demonstrate why strategy in the public and private sectors are so different from each other.  We’ll also show you, using practical examples, what good and bad strategy look like and how to make sure that yours is the former.

Course 3: Inspiring change

So often strategy and change efforts fall down when they get to implementation.  Many organisations spend months, even years, developing strategy only to have it sit and gather dust on a shelf somewhere.  To make your strategic efforts real, you need to bring them to life.

We teach you how to inspire your teams to bring your strategy to life.  This includes giving you a range of key concepts and tools we have carefully selected to help you create the energised culture you need to get your people moving.  For example, we show you how to co-design experiments with your team and us the power of storytelling to help you inspire your team to lead the changes you need.

Really great course

"Really great course.  It was a nice balance of theory and activity, with group exercises and discussion, as well as materials and slides.  It meant being able to put the thinking into practice, which was very helpful. I also appreciated the opportunities for reflection, particularly at the beginning of each session."

An opportunity for deep thinking

"This was an excellent course.  Too often we are steered away from deep thinking because it's seen as a luxury, or not adding value to the public sector context. That is, of course, nonsense. We need more deep thinkers and leaders who embrace thought, ideas and challenge (in actuality, not in empty platitudes). I have loved the opportunity to unplug and soar to different parts of ideas and concepts."
